The Jets were dealt a brutal lo s in their Week 1 win over the Bills, as the team's new starting quarterback, Aaron Rodgers, is done for the season after just four snaps due to a torn Achilles.Rodgers' injury leaves the Jets with just two quarterbacks on the 53-man roster and practice squad: Zach Wilson and Tim Boyle. He has held several showcases and workouts including but no team has elected to sign him to even an offseason deal.One can certainly make the argument that Kaepernick deserved another contract after San Francisco released him. However, at this point, he has been out of the league for so long that it is hard to justify signing him with the expectation of playing competitive downs this season.Here's a refresher on the Kaepernick saga as he once again looks for a way to get back into the NFL.As mentioned, Kaepernick has been out of the NFL for seven years. He last played for the 49ers on Jan. 1, 2017 in a Week 17 matchup against the Seahawks. He completed 17 of 22 pa ses in the contest for 215 yards and a touchdown while adding 16 rushing yards in the 25-22 lo s.Kaepernick started most of the 2016 season for the 49ers and posted decent counting stats. He completed 59.2 percent of his pa ses for 2,241 yards, 16 touchdowns and four interceptions while rushing for 468 yards and two touchdowns as well.Though Kaepernick did well to avoid turnovers, it still wasn't enough to help the 49ers win. They posted a record of 1-10 in his 11 starts and were 2-14 overall in Chip Kelly's lone year in charge of the team Jayon Brown Jersey .It was understood that the 49ers were ready to move on from Kaepernick after the 2016 season even though the team's struggles weren't squarely on him. The two sides had restructured his contract midseason to effectively create an opt-out for both sides after the season.Kaepernick eventually opted out of his deal with the 49ers to get a jump on free agency. It was expected that he would find a new landing spot, but that never materialized.MORE: Kaepernick didn't play in the NFL after the conclusion of the 2016 season. Why? Because teams simply never signed him to a contract.After entering free Steve McNair Jersey agency, Kaepernick was met with no interest. This was perceived as strange considering that he had helped the 49ers reach Super Bowl 47 when Jim Harbaugh was the coach. And even if teams didn't believe he was capable of starting, he had the skills and stats needed to be a backup somewhere.This led to accusations that the NFL had blackballed Kaepernick, who had sparked an uproar when he protested police brutality and racial injustice in America by taking a knee during the national anthem at each game during the 2016 season."I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppre ses Black people and people of color," Kaepernick told NFL Media after his protest was first noticed. "To me, this is bigger than football and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way. There are bodies in the street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder."Kaepernick's protest polarized the league and created some tensions between owners and the players. Some theorized that the owners blackballed Kaepernick to put those i sues out of sight, and that's part of the reason he sued the NFL for collusion.Kaepernick's lawsuit was eventually settled. The quarterback and his fellow Jack Conklin Jersey plaintiff, Eric Reid, received substantial payouts from the league. But the quarterback still didn't receive another opportunity to play in the NFL, and it doesn't seem like he will.WEEK 2 NFL PICKS:|Kaepernick is currently 35 years old and will turn 36 on Nov. 3. That would make him one of the oldest quarterbacks in the NFL behind only Aaron Rodgers (39), Josh Johnson (37) and Brian Hoyer (35).As such, it's hard to imagine a team being too enthused about what Kaepernick can provide at this point in his career. And while he may have once deserved another chance to prove himself in the NFL, that time likely has now pa sed.
