2007 में भारत की टीम ने साउथ अफ्रीका दौरा किया था एक टेस्ट मैच के दौरान भारत की दूसरी विकेट गिरने के बाद सचिन को खेलने आना था और अक्सर ही 2 विकेट होने के बाद सचिन तेंदुलकर खेलने आते थे मगर उस टाइम विकेट गिरने के टाइम शायद सचिन वाशरूम में थे जो खेलने नहीं पहुंच सकते थे ऐसे में कप्तान सौरव गांगुली ने आने के लिए त्यार होना शुरू किया जिसमे उन्हें नियम के हिसाब से 3 मिनट से अधिक का ज्यादा समय लग गया अंपायर ने सौरव गांगुली को टाइम आउट नियम के जरिए आउट करार दे दिया था मगर यहां साउथ अफ्रीका के कप्तान ग्राम स्मिथ ने खेल भावना दिखाते हुवे अंपायर से कहा हमे आउट नहीं चाहिए गांगुली को आने दो अगर गांगुली को टाइम लग रहा है तो हमे कोई आपत्ति नहीं है
ग्राम स्मिथ के इस फैसले के बाद ग्राउंड में सभी दर्शकों ने जोर जोर से ताली बजाकर ग्राम स्मिथ को खूब सराहा
