Jagmohan Singh Nagi, a 63-year-old agripreneur from Batala, Punjab, has built a thriving food business called Kulwant Nutrition, generating an annual turnover of over ₹7 crore. Starting his journey in 1989 with a single maize-focused plant, Nagi was motivated by a lifelong passion for agriculture, inspired by his father, who worked in flour mill repair.
Expanding over the years, Nagi now practices contract farming across 300 acres, producing a diverse range of crops, including corn, mustard, wheat, and vegetables like carrots and tomatoes. His commitment to quality has allowed him to secure contracts with leading multinational companies like PepsiCo, Kellogg’s, and Domino’s Pizza. His reach extends internationally, with exports to countries like England, New Zealand, Dubai, and Hong Kong, building a global footprint for Indian agricultural products.
When the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted supply chains, Nagi pivoted quickly to focus on essential grocery items such as organic wheat flour and corn flour, ensuring business continuity. He also began planning for further growth by branching into mustard oil production and diversifying into new crops like rice and chia seeds, aiming to keep up with market demands.
Beyond his business, Nagi is dedicated to his community. He provides employment to 70 local individuals and freely offers training to farmers and agriculture students on advanced farming techniques and effective market strategies. By helping them increase productivity and embrace sustainable practices, he fosters a network of empowered farmers who can achieve higher yields and greater market success. His approach highlights the impact of knowledge-sharing in agriculture, promoting a model where farmers work together for community growth.
Jagmohan Singh Nagi’s journey from a small plant to a multi-crore business is a testament to hard work, adaptability, and community spirit, serving as an inspiration across India’s agricultural sector.
